KAILUA-KONA — Hawaii Island police arrested 13 motorists for suspected drunken driving between Feb. 26 and Sunday. Two of those drivers were involved in traffic crashes.
So far this year, there have been 183 DUI arrests compared with 217 during the same period last year, a decrease of 15.7 percent, according to the Hawaii Police Department.
Kona officers arrested six drivers while Hilo officers arrested four. Officers in the South Kohala, Puna and Ka‘u districts arrested one motorist in each district.
Through Monday, there have been five deaths on Big Island public roads compared with four fatalities at this time last last year, a decrease of 25 percent.
